Piñatabstract is a celebration and multimedia exploration of the piñata tradition through craft, performance, large scale work and new media. It showcases the techniques and aesthetic of the culturally rich iconography of the piñata while at the same time expanding and challenges the notions behind the object, practice and its place within our collective imagination.

Curated by Micheal Flanagan, the exhibition title references both the path through South Texas taken by countless international migrants, a theme explicitly explored in Smith's and Rawmirez’s work, as well as the path taken by artists throughout their careers.
